Sukhumvit & AWARE continue winning ways

Reporting by Dom Dumais & Christian Oloffson

The Sukhumvit Spitfires and AWARE continued to put up “W’s” on the score sheet in SHL action on Thursday January 11th. In the opening contest, Sukhumvit struck first in its match with Expedia when at 9:15 of the first period some tic-tac-toe passing saw Krittapad “Peam” Jaratwuttipreeda finish off a nice three-way passing play from Michael White and Adrian Meyers. Things then got a little physical near the end of the period when Expedia’s Chayutapon “First” Kulrat was called for body checking.

Sukhumvit snaps losing streak: AWARE solidifies hold on first

The final set of games for the 2017 calendar year in the Sport Corner Siam Hockey League (SHL) 2017-2018 season took place on Thursday December 21st. The opening game saw the Sukhumvit Spitfires snap a four-game game losing streak with a 5-2 victory over Hertz, while AWARE edged Expedia 4-3 in a thrilling back-and-forth contest in the second match.

The Spitfires were missing seven of their regular players due to illness or travel commitments, but they did have Tewin “Thor” Chartsuwan in their line-up as a sub. Thor has been in the line-up for all four Sukhumvit victories this year, so it is fair to say he’s earned the moniker “the difference maker”. Michael White, had a huge game for Sukhumvit scoring two goals, roaring all over the ice and earning Rolling Stone Pizza player-of-the-game honours. White, who missed the first six games of the season, has done a nice job of fitting in and finding his groove in the last two games.

Hertz wins by default and AWARE surges into first

Thursday December 14th saw the seventh set of games in the Sport Corner Siam Hockey League (SHL) 2017-2018 season take place. The opening contest saw Hertz defeat Expedia by default, while AWARE dropped the Sukhumvit Spitfires 5-2 in the second match of the evening.

Thursday morning had Expedia look like they were going to dress their full squad for the first time this season. But by 5pm, Pratch Siridhara, Chayutapon (First) Kulrat and La Chamnanrattankul had all dropped out. So, Expedia captain Mike Wilson reached out for a replacement and Ichiro Hara was able to show at the last minute. Unfortunately, what Mike and the rest of the Expedia squad didn’t count on was Rob Taylor getting caught in traffic and Chap Kovitaya having a minor traffic accident causing Rob to miss the start of the game and Chap to miss the game altogether. This meant that at puck drop Expedia only had nine skaters and a goalie meaning they had to default the game.

Forfeit & Christmas Party

Dear All,

In our first game between Expedia and Hertz, Expedia was unfortunately unable to put 10 skaters on the ice at the time of the puck drop.  As per rule 6.5 – Defaulted Games:

Teams are expected to be ready to play at the scheduled start time. A minimum of 10 skaters and 1 goaltender are required to start a game. If the team fails to have 10 skaters and 1 goalie by the scheduled opening faceoff, the game will be forfeited. The team with the required number of players will receive points for a 1–0 win. The game will still be played, but a 1-0 win is recorded. Forfeited games will not be re-scheduled.
