Game 5 – 5th Dec 2016

In the evening’s first contest, Titanium looked like they were going to make it three victories in a row in the young SHL season jumping out to a 4-1 lead, but Hooters Nana stormed back to win their first game of the season, 7-5.

The Rolling Stone Pizza player of the game was Hooters winger Paul Stoddart, who left his grinder in the tool shed and put on quite the scoring display, tallying the league’s first hat-trick. Stoddart was previously on Sport Corner Snipers, the last team to win a TWHL championship, and he also won a Mekong Cup with the Thai Stix ball hockey squad a couple years back.

Danny Kerfoot, a veteran of the Manitoba junior leagues, subbed for Hooters star Andy Brine, scoring two goals and an assist, and made his presence felt every time he stepped on the ice. Steve Sproule and Ralf Dittmer added single tallies for Hooters. Neng Ohana, subbing for Pattarapol “Dream” Ungkulpattanasuk, made 23 stops in the relief effort for Hooters. Titanium’s five goals were tallied by John Schachnovsky, captain Zak Garofolo, Jouni Heinonen, DJ Sherman and Remo Nyffenegger.

Sport Corner Titanium’s Russian superstar goalie Gabor Toth, who made 15 saves on the night, did not address the press after the loss, though a number of Russian expletive deleteds could be heard emanating from the Titanium dressing room along with a lot of crashing and banging. Further attempts to contact him through the week through his agent Patrick Toth proved unsuccessful.
