AWARE nips Hooters Nana in final seconds
Week 11 SHL action saw AWARE nip Hooters Nana in 5-4 in the final five seconds of the game on Corry Day’s second goal of the night, while the Sukhumvit Spitfires extended their winning streak to four games by beating Sport Corner-Titanium 7-4.
AWARE’s Darren Boodle with a goal and two assists was the Rolling Stone Pizza player of the game in the first contest. He made two key plays early on setting up Brandon Vick’s tip-in goal for the first AWARE marker and then catching keeper Gabor Toth out of position and feeding a nice pass to AWARE captain Patrik Lundmark for AWARE’s second goal. Jordan Newman, Michael White, Gary Cosby and Andy Brine tallied for Hooters Nana.
Gabor Toth, pulled double duty again, for the third time this season, as he played goal for Hooters Nana in the first game stopping 42 shots of the 47 pucks he faced and then stopping 21 of the 28 shots fired his way while tending goal for his regular team, SC-Titanium, in game two. Gabor faced 75 shots on the night, but the stress got to him at the end of game one as after letting in Day’s winning goal, he pushed the net out of place, threw his gloves down and stormed off the ice—it’s not easy being an SHL goalkeeper. Yves Gaboriault, who took up yoga a few months back, showed its beneficial results by turning away 21 of the 25 pucks he faced in getting AWARE back in the win column.
Week twelve SHL action continues on Sunday February 19th at “the Rink”, Central Grand Rama 9, with the Sukhumvit Spitfires battling Hooters Nana at 8:30 and AWARE taking on SC-Titanium at 9:30pm.
