SHL News Week 9

Zack couldn’t make it to this recording, but Juhani Ijas joined Dom in the studio for this episode.

In our first game of the night we had the Novotel Spitfires facing off against Aware. Novotel are coming off of a tough loss while Aware are coming off a huge win. This could have been the moment to turn things around for Aware, but sadly, they allowed three goals in the opening period. One goal by Novotel Spitfires captain, Mike Freeson, one goal by Ken Kindborn and one goal by Mangkorn Sukwiboon. Aware attempted a comeback and started off with a goal in the second period by Masato Kitayama, and followed that up with a goal in the third period by Roman Larin. It just wasn’t enough and Freeson scored his second of the night midway through the third period to halt Aware’s comeback, earning himself the Rolling Stone Pizza Player of the Game.

In our second game, we had KCG going head to head with Siam Mandalay. Siam Mandalay opened things up early with a goal by Patrick Forstner, but KCG answered back with a goal by their captain, Harrison Oztemel, and then took the lead with less than a minute left in the first period when Gabe Rosko found the back of the net. KCG increased their lead to two when Jan Isaksson scored early in the second period. KCG just couldn’t hold on, and Siam Mandalay scored two goals to tie things up, one from Mitchel Morrison and one from Darius Konotopetz. In the third period Siam Mandalay increased their lead to to two when Konotopetz scored his second of the night and Tan Limpinphet scored, to give Siam Mandalay a 5-3 win over KCG. The Rolling Stone Pizza Player of the Game went to Darius Konotopetz for his two goals and one assist.
