SHL Scholarship
Applications for the 2017-2018 Johnny Oduya are being accepted now through Friday, September 1, 2017
The Johnny Oduya scholarship is in place to help grow ice hockey in Thailand and make playing time affordable for Thais. In addition, the selected candidate will gain experience playing in the most competitive league in the country and develop both tactical and technical hockey skills.
About The Scholarship
This is a unique opportunity that will be awarded to one (1) young Thai ice hockey player who has an ambition to further develop their ice hockey career. The season long scholarship is intended for a young Thai hockey player with a strong passion for improving his/her hockey skills. The league fee for all regular season and all playoff games will be fully covered for the selected candidate.*
*Any non-mandatory ice session, volunteer practice, league event or activities during the season are not included in the scholarship.
About Johnny Oduya
Johnny Oduya is a professional ice hockey player from Sweden, currently playing in the National Hockey League (NHL). His resume includes two (2) Stanley Cups with the Chicago Blackhawks, Olympic silver medal and a World Championship bronze medal with Sweden. In 2012 he also led the Flying Farangs to the Land of Smiles tournament Championship in Bangkok during the NHL lockout.
Candidacy
Successful candidates must have turned 16 years old at the start of the season (October 2017) and be physically and mentally prepared to participate in an adult competitive recreational hockey league. Applicants should represent the ideals of determination, maturity, sportsmanship and fair play; in addition to being qualified ice hockey players fit to play in the league.
Term
The scholarship is for the Fall-Winter 2017-2018 season, beginning October 2017 and concluding April 2018.
Responsibilities
The selected candidate is expected to be a good role model for all ice hockey players in Thailand, strictly following the rules and regulations of the Siam Hockey League (SHL). In addition, the player is expected to be a positive spokesperson of the league and have a high attendance record for all games throughout the season.
Select Process
The Johnny Oduya scholarship will be chosen by the SHL League Committee and Team Captains. The main tools in the selection process will include the submitted application, on-ice performance and a character background check from trainers, team mates and coaches.
Application Process
Applications for the Johnny Oduya scholarship must be received by Siam Hockey League (SHL) no later than Friday September 1, 2017. Applicants should forward the completed application form, together with a cover letter and a list of references. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will be notified in early September.
